Introduction to Historical Theology: Johann Georg Hamann

Class study on Church History

Biographical Snapshot

A protestant leader in Germany in the 18th century, Johann Georg Hamann worked hard to reconcile faith and philosophy. Much of this has to do with his close friendship with Immanuel Kant, who he greatly disagreed with. His distrust in placing reason above all else brought him to the conclusion that one must have childlike faith in Jesus in order to be saved. His work and thinking heavily influenced many German thinkers for years to come.
